Bringing a PR campaign to life: Blank White Space

We pride ourselves on being agile and nimble marketeers. With our collective of Doers behind us, we’re able to turn round a project we’re passionate about at the drop of a hat. This project, with online art curation service, Blank White Space, was turned around from beginning to end in 5 days. A shining example of how we get the job done!

The Brief

Blank White Space is an online art curation service who, in the wake of George Floyd’s death, partnered up with artist Raphael Adjetey Adjei Mayne to create a portrait of George. Raphael created the iconic piece ‘HAS TO STOP’, which is a red and black African wax print to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of George Floyd. The original painting, along with all proceeds from the piece, were gifted to George’s family. We were tasked with driving as much PR as possible across a two day period on a very tight budget.

The Strategy

We hired two Doers, both with amazing consumer PR backgrounds, who we knew would put all their passion into getting this piece the coverage it deserved. They were responsible for driving the coverage and managed to secure pieces in Dazed and Time Out amongst others.

Why It Worked

This type of project is what we pride ourselves on at the Doers and shows how we can be briefed quickly, put the right team in place and turn over effective results fast and efficiently. However, the caveat to this is we did require a really thorough brief, we wanted to know exactly what the piece was and all about the artist. We asked a lot of background questions and had to get a gauge of the kind of titles they wanted to appear in. This allowed us to be super targeted in our approach and was the catalyst to generating the results we did. We believe knowledge is key and having all the relevant information around the project meant we could provide the best outcome for this amazing cause.

The Results

The piece has done magnificently; it took £1,200 in sales in the first weekend and is still ongoing. More results to come!
